Vision

“Serving our world by loving, building, equipping, and multiplying people to be like Jesus.”

CORE VALUES (the enduring, no-compromise principles that will guide how we do ministry in pursuit of our mission & vision)

God Matters – our main purpose in life is to be in personal relationship with God and bring Him glory by loving, honouring and trusting Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Proverbs 3:5-6; Matthew 22:34-38)

People Matter - we value relationships by loving, honouring and respecting one another as people created in God’s image. Cooperation and collaboration characterize how we live and serve together as we seek to encourage a spirit of unity and deal with conflict in a healthy way (Matthew 5:23, 24; 18:15-20; Romans 12:18; 15:5-7; Galatians 3:26-28; 5:13-15; Hebrews 10:24, 25). We are committed to living our lives before God and others with genuineness and integrity, demonstrating the reality of Jesus in our lives. (Isaiah 29:13; Matthew 5:16; Acts 4:13; 11:23)

The Bible Matters - we are committed to the pursuit and presentation of the Truth, namely Jesus Christ. We hold Jesus and the Bible as our standards for truth. All teaching, correction and equipping comes from an intimate relationship with Jesus and a thorough understanding and application of God’s Word. (Joshua 1:8; Psalms 119:105; John 8:31-32; 14:6; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17; Hebrews 4:12; James 1:22)

Community Matters – God exists in community; Jesus modeled it and desires it for all of us. Therefore, we strive to create a number of contexts for experiencing community and connection with others. Small groups are a primary means of accomplishing this within our church (Genesis 1:26; Mark 3:13; John 17; Acts 2:42-47; 1 Corinthians 12:12-26; Hebrews 10:24, 25). We also strive to make an impact in our greater community by seeking to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those around us.

Transformation Matters – Embracing the Gospel and following Jesus results in transformation in all areas of our lives. Therefore, we give ourselves to application of the Bible to our lives as well as making disciples who clearly understand and follow God’s Word, as we live it out in relevant ways (2 Cor. 5:17; Col 1:28-29). At Vertical Church we strive to live out these values prayerfully (Ephesians 3:14-21; 1 Thessalonians 5:17), authentically (Matthew 5:16; Acts 4:13), relevantly (1 Chronicles 12:32; 1 Corinthians 9:19-23) and passionately (Deuteronomy 6:5; Jeremiah 29:11-14; Colossians 3:23, 24).
